South Sea Pearls

Primarily farmed in Western Australia and Indonesia, South Sea pearls are cultured in saltwater oysters called "pinctada maxima" or the gold‐lipped oyster. These oysters are known to produce of the largest pearls – with some over 20.0 mm in size. However 10.0 – 15.0mm sized pearls are more typical.

South Sea pearls are often white in color, but occasionally are produced with a golden‐yellow hue. These pearls are then marketed as 'golden pearls' and may command a higher price. Other colors are occasionally found, but are much rarer.
