Style It: Jewelry For a Little Black Dress

The LBD is a staple in most every woman's wardrobe. Make the look your own with these tips for styling your little black number with jewelry.

For a dress with long sleeves

This is your moment to add some color. Diamonds are always a great choice, of course, but gemstone jewelry like emeralds, sapphires and rubies will pop against your sleek black dress. Long sleeves are also conducive to bold jewelry like chandelier earrings and statement rings. If your sleeves are tight, choose a ring over a bracelet.

For a sleeveless dress

A sleeveless dress definitely calls for rings and/or bracelets. Stack bangles, choose a striking cuff, or go a bit more demure with a tennis or charm bracelet. Don't forget a great pair of earrings that will frame your face and draw the attention upward.

For a strapless dress

If your hair is being worn up or you have a shorter haircut, consider making earrings your focal point. Longer necklaces are also lovely with strapless dresses. Pick something that will stand out against the color of your dress, like gold or colored gems.

For a plunging or scooped neckline dress

For a plunging neck or V-neck, a lariat necklace is ideal. For a scoop neckline, try a mid-length necklace that falls across the d├ęcolletage, perhaps in pearls or diamonds. Note, the necklace should sit always above the neckline of the dress.
