RHODOLITE

Derived from the Greek words "rhodon" and "lithos," meaning rose-colored stone, rhodolite is a type of garnet that varies in color from red-violet to raspberry-color to a rich pink-red. Rhodolite garnet is a combination of almandine and pyrope garnet varieties.

Garnet is considered a traveler's stone. Noah's Ark is said have been navigated at night by a garnet lantern. Like many red stones, garnet was once believed to heal or stop bleeding and encourage good circulation. Garnet was also said to alleviate anger and promote tranquility.

Garnet is the traditional birthstone for January. Rhodolite is rated 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and is suitable for all types of jewelry.
